Natural and cultural activities in Dunsborough Beach
Cape Naturaliste Walking Trails
The Naturaliste walk trail network has been designed to provide an opportunity for everyone from the short easy 30 minute walk to up to a half a day on the Cape.
The Cape Naturaliste track provides some unique scenery of the cape. The track winds through an area known as “the Pinnacles”. If walked in a clock-wise direction, the “other side of the moon” can be seen as black loam soils sculptured by nature.
Castle Rock
Located on the east side of Cape Naturaliste, this calm, turquoise bay is protected from the westerly winds and ocean swell. Perfect for swimming, fishing and relaxing. Castle Rock is located at the end of Castle Bay, accessed by a meander along the beach or via the Meelup Trail. A climb to the top will offer spectacular views.
Ngilgi Cave
Ngilgi Cave is located in the Geographe Bay and Margaret River Region
just off Caves Road, a short distance north of Yallingup. Discovered in
1899, Ngilgi Cave (formerly known as Yallingup Cave) is home to
stunning stalactite, stalagmite, helictite and shawl formations.
Explore at your own pace on the popular Semi-Guided Show Cave Tour or choose your own Ngilgi adventure!
Meelup Reserve Trail
This coastal walk weaves along the tranquil waters of Geographe Bay from Dunsborough to Meelup. Highlights include whale watching lookouts, various ecosystems, small bay communities and some of the best beaches in Western Australia.
Leewin-Naturaliste National Park
The national park takes in amazing views of the stunning Indian Ocean
complete with tidal pools, lagoons, sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and
rock formations.
Wildlife is abundant with chance sightings of dolphins surfing beach
breaks and humpback and southern right whales can often be seen around
June to December. Rare and common sea and terrestrial birds are best
seen at Sugarloaf Rock and Cape Leeuwin.
Meelup Beach
This picturesque beach is one not to miss! Beautiful white sand, clear turquoise water and shady grassed areas. Meelup Beach is the perfect spot for a family beach day, ideal for picnics and swimming in it’s calm waters. Grab your snorkel and explore the crystal clear waters.
Yallingup Beach
Famous for its awesome surfing, Yallingup Beach also boasts a beautiful lagoon, making it the perfect place to explore the reef and shallow waters. Why not grab a spot on the sand and watch the sun set over the sparkling Indian Ocean.
Canal Rocks
Canal Rocks is essentially an open air museum of the geological
features and rocks of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste ridge, which you can
experience while surrounded by the powerful forces of wind and water
that have helped to shape them.
Visitors can cross the canals via recently upgraded narrow bridges and
carefully clamber over the rocks to marvel at the ocean’s power.
The Aboriginal name for Canal Rocks is Winjee Sam.
Injidup Beach
Great for surfing, snorkeling, sliding down massive sand dunes, swimming and diving, Injidup Beach is located a short drive from Yallingup.
Injidup Spa
Just a few minutes drive from the bustling little town of Yallingup, towards Margaret River along Caves Road, you’ll find a road heading west (Wyadup Road). Following it right to the end there’s a carpark with amazing views of the Indian Ocean. You’ll probably bump into a few surfers trying to catch the waves down at the beach, but a little hike from the carpark to the right you’ll find a large rock pool, but it’s no ordinary rockpool. It’s almost like a natural spa where the surrounding rocks shelter this little inlet from the crazy waves. The best part, is on a good day, when the surf is blasting through a little wedge you can sit just below and enjoy a natural massage. Who needs a physio when you can get a massage from mother nature?!
